A quick and easy, way to make your own hummus. You can have fun and make this your own. Add a few slices of jalapenos or red chili flake oil to give it a kick. Add more garlic if you are looking to keep the vampires away, or even remove the oil if you are looking to cut back on oils. I give my family as little salt as possible but please feel free to add more salt to your own taste.

Quick note: I used a small KitchenAid food processor because when I make hummus I also make my vegan mayo so I don’t waist the extra liquid. ( I also pull out one tablespoon of garbanzo beans for the mayo. The hummus won’t miss them) Therefore I had my bigger blender in use for the mayo and only had access to my smaller food processor. I recommend one a little bigger for this portion size, a small one will work however, once you need to start adding in the water and oil you will need scoop out some of the pureed garbanzo beans to make room for the water and oil. Then I add in the portion I scooped out to blend it with the finished hummus. It’s an extra step but I was making two things at once so I had to make due.

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 cans of no salt added Garbanzo Beans (13 oz each)
  • 1/2 Cup aquafaba (the liquid from one can of Garbanzo Beans)
  • 1/3 cup Tahini
  • 2 cloves finely minced garlic
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

EQUIPMENT

  • Measuring spoons
  • Measuring Cup
  • Food processer or blender
  • colander
  • bowl

Cooking Directions

  1. Place the colander in a bowl and drain the garbanzo beans.
  2. Reserve 1/2 cup of the garbanzo bean liquid in a cup and set aside. (You can discard the rest or use it to make my vegan mayonnaise)
  3. In the bowl of the food processor place the garbanzo beans, tahini, minced garlic, lemon juice, and salt. Then puree all the ingredients until creamy.
  4. add water and oil and blend again until the hummus is smooth and creamy.
  5. transfer to a bowl and cover. Allow the hummus to cool in the fridge for at least an hour.
  6. Garnish with a sprinkle of paprika on the top if you would like and enjoy!
